From a letter from the Inspector General

 

     "Since May of this year, a NYS Office located in Rochester,  New York experienced multiple forced burglaries and the loss of numerous computers and electronic equipment. "

 

    " Investigators from this office assessed the activity, then installed two Micro Technology surveillance systems which were activated by motion detectors."

 

     "Not long after installing this equipment and on two separate occasions the systems recorded the perpetrators entering the office with a pry bar then exiting after burglarizing the office.  The picture, which was very clear in detail, led our investigators in cooperation with the Rochester P.D. to a suspect."

 

     "After executing a search warrant a pry bar and stolen computer was located in the suspect’s residence.  It was learned that the suspect is a professional office burglar who was paroled the April from State prison after serving a sentence for burglary. "

 

     "Without the video capture we would not have been able to identify and locate the suspect.  He denied his involvement in the burglaries until he was shown the video of his activities.  The investigator stated that the suspect’s jaw just dropped when he viewed himself on the video."

 

     "The District Attorney is offering him a prison term of 2-5 years if he enters a plea of guilty."

  

     "There is no doubt in my mind that the hard investigative work coupled with Micro Technology equipment brought this criminal investigation to a successful conclusion. "
