Step 3: Purchase
the required materials to install the Electric Water Valve and the Impulse
Sprinkler Head.
Using the measurements
obtained in Step 2, go to your local hardware store and purchase a
sufficient length of 3/4" or 1" pipe (PVC, polyethylene, or
copper) to reach between your water supply and the selected location of
the Impulse Sprinkler Head(s) along the paths you have selected. Also
purchase the necessary plumbing fittings to connect to your water supply
(a "tee" or "y"), the pipe fittings needed to install
the Electric Water Valve (see the instructions that come with the valve or
ask at the hardware store), and the pipe fittings needed to install the
Impulse Sprinkler Heads (also see its instructions or ask at the hardware
store). The Electric Water Valve has either 3/4" or 1" female
pipe fittings and the Impulse Sprinkler Head has a 1/2" male pipe
fitting. It is also a good idea to install a cutoff valve in the waterline
to the Electric Water Valve. This will allow you to turn the water
correction spray off while you are inside the kennels cleaning, and to
drain for the winter in cold climates. It may be best to take the Electric
Water Valve and Impulse Sprinkler Head with you to the hardware store to
be sure you get the right fittings for installation with the pipe.
Depending on the length of pipe (and type of pipe selected) required, the
hardware bill should total less than $20.00.
