Bark Pick-Up Sensitivity
Adjustments
Because every kennel or yard
application is unique, the UKS System has a Bark Pick-Up
Sensitivity adjustment. This adjustment is the knob labeled
"Sensitivity." This knob is not a volume control. The
volume of the correction tone is fixed and cannot be adjusted. The
sensitivity adjustment allows you to control how loud the bark must be to
trigger the correction tone, while eliminating any false triggering. Make
this adjustment on a calm and still day if the system is mounted outdoors.
To adjust the sensitivity,
first set the switch next to the adjustment knob to setting "A"
(for audible). This lowers the correction tone frequency such that you can
now hear it (also giving you a first hand experience at what the
ultrasonic correction tone sounds like to your dogs). Go away and listen.
If you do not hear the tone each time you hear barking, increase the
sensitivity (turn the knob clockwise a little). If you hear the tone
without hearing barking, decrease the sensitivity (turn the knob
counter-clockwise). The total sensitivity range available is from
relatively dead (requiring very loud barks to trigger it) to whisper
sensitive. Make your adjustments in small increments. When you have the
sensitivity adjusted properly, reset the switch to the "U" (for
ultrasonic) setting so you won't hear the correction tone. Be sure that
you use the lowest possible sensitivity setting that will respond
consistently to barking. If you have the sensitivity set too high, other
sounds in the 'bark spectrum' may trigger the correction tone. The
"Novel Stimulus" aspect of the tone will then be lost and your
dogs will learn to ignore it. Also the ambient (or background) noise
level may be high enough to cause continued triggering (the tone will not
go off when set to "A" or you hear clicking or popping on when
set to "U"), which will have the same effect. You will need to
correct this by reducing the sensitivity.
