We do complex SMT designs. Typical designs are captured in Futurenet, Orcad, PowerLogic or ViewLogic schematic capture programs.   Placement is in PADS PowerPCB, with routing by Specctra shape-based super autorouter.

Schematics

Our typical work flow begins with a schematic. We either generate one for you or receive one from you at our ftp server.   We maintain our own firewall protected T-1 line and server farm.   We accept most CAD/CAE formats.  We can convert schematic data to a PCB file based on component data sheets using industry standard components from our extensive library of technical books, CD-ROMS, and on-line information from our network of computers.

This shock recorder module is used on forklifts.

Mechanical

Another important part of the design process are the mechanical items. Our mechanical engineering department can create the mechanical drawings for you, or you can supply them. Mechanical drawings can be accepted in Solidworks, Data Exchange Format (*.DXF), AutoCAD 10/12/14 (*.DWG), Windows Metafile (*.WMF), Graphics Interchange Format, .JPG, and many others.

These high-end A/D cards are used to test valves.

Netlist

We will generate a netlist for your review and comparison to your schematic. Of course, our engineering department will take on this task if you prefer. The netlist, parts sizes, and database is then sent to manufacturing for pick and place coordinating.

This is a complex, DSP-based biomedical design.

Placement

Fiducials - For SMT layouts we will place a fiducial in all four corners of the PCB about .125" to .250" in from each edge. Our standard fiducial is a solid 40 mil circle on the copper layer with a 60 to 80 mil solder mask opening. If the assembly has SMT components on both sides, we will place the fiducials on both sides.

Polarized Components - All polarized components (Diodes, Capacitors, ICs, etc.) will go the same direction if possible. If components must be going different directions, we will use a silk screen outline that can be seen when the component is in place. We will use outlines where polarity is easily seen.

Double Sided Boards - For mixed technology PCBs we try to place both SMT and Through Hole components on the same side. For PCBs where you intend for the SMT parts to be wave soldered with the Through hole parts, placing multi-leg SMT components on the solder side requires advanced layout skills and non-standard SMT footprints to assure the best quality. For two sided SMT assemblies, try to place all the ICs and fine pitch parts on the same side.

Routing

Since we do extensive mixed analog and SMT design work, we have the experience to place components for both electrical operation concerns, ease of assembly, and servicing. When a good placement has been approved, we will then route the board either manually or automatically.

Finally, the silkscreens will be arranged for manufacturing ease, and  copyright information added along with tooling targets.

Panels - We will panelize the PCB. We can place the PCBs in a panel that will increase production efficiency, reduce PCB material cost, and assembly time.

Here is a water meter with telephone interfaces and 16 to 24 meter capability. The customer is a major electric meter manufacturer.

AutoRouting

We also accept PADS  Pre-Placed job files for AutoRouting. You must have a design database in an acceptable format. The design database should include the following:

bullet

All parts should be placed

bullet

All pad stacks should be defined for all parts on the board.

bullet

Via sizes should be defined

bullet

Any pre-routes must be routed

bullet

Specify any special routing or high-speed design rule requirements
